Pain Prescriptions

“When pain is to be borne, a little courage helps more than much knowledge, a little human sympathy more than much courage, and the least tincture of the love of God more than all.”

~ C.S. Lewis The Problem of Pain

It’s funny to me that the second quote I saw on your blog after Tolkien was C.S. Lewis. the two are forever linked in my mine. I wrote a paper years ago in high school about literature as a path to faith (or not) based largely on their correspondence. My mother was trying at the time to coax me into the Catholic Church. (I tried. It didn’t work.)

Following the Lewis with Tolkien was not in the plan but I see how it may appear to those familiar with both. As you know well, they were the closest of friends. In trying to portray the bursting glory of spring I ran across this Tolkien quote. It was perfect. By the way, thank you so much for following SimplySage.
